Qualifications

Bachelor¿s degree in physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology), life sciences (e.g.,
biology, microbiology, health physics or biophysics), or a closely related scientific field and three years of
full-time professional experience in an accredited laboratory.

OR

Bachelor¿s degree in any field (e.g., business) and three years of full-time professional experience in
quality assurance.

Graduate coursework in physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology), life sciences
(e.g., biology, microbiology, health physics or biophysics), or a closely related scientific field may be
substituted for the required experience, on a year-for year basis, to a maximum of two years.


Summary

This classification oversees the Technical Services and Kord Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratories’
quality assurance programs of considerable difficulty. An employee in this class leads the
implementation of the quality management system. This classification performs responsibilities at the
lead level under the direct guidance of the Ag Laboratory Administrator. This classification differs from
that of Ag Laboratory Administrator in that the incumbent of the latter is responsible for the
administration of the laboratories.

Responsibilities

1. Writes, reviews, revises, and implements the Quality Management System documents, adhering
to all federal and state requirements.
2. Informs others on elements of quality compliance by developing and implementing a training
program. Educates personnel on policies and procedures.
3. Leads internal audits through review of work performed to evaluate compliance with
accreditation requirements. Serves as a liaison between the laboratory and
accreditation/auditing organizations.
4. Recommends improvement to the quality management system based on laboratory needs.
5. Participates in periodic meetings with internal customers and external partners to gather
information and provide updates.
6. Provides technical guidance to other laboratory personnel, including during the establishment of
new procedures and investigation of non-conforming events.
7. May oversee environmental health and safety compliance within the laboratory.
8. Participates in professional development opportunities such as technical workshops, online
classes, reading scientific literature to stay abreast of current quality assurance, laboratory
management, and laboratory science.

  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Knowledgeable in English language, communications and media, administration and management clerical procedures, production and processing, public safety, and security.
  • Applies science, mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension, critical thinking, complex problem solving, systems analysis, and systems evaluation when performing quality control/assurance analysis.
  • Demonstrates active listening and learning, learning strategies, monitoring, speaking, and writing skills when training personnel.
  • Demonstrates decision quality, planning, perspective, priority setting, process orientation, strategic agility, dealing with ambiguity, composure, functional/technical competency, integrity, and trust in the performance of job duties.

Tools & Equipment

Ability to operate general office equipment and laboratory equipment.

TN Driver Standards
